Difference between Android TV and a Smart TV
Here we are going to the main difference between Andriod TV and a smart TV.
Android TV comes into play when we consider the fact that nowadays we watch more on our mobile screens than on the big screen. AndroidTV bridges that very gap between your phone and TV. It also gives the option when it comes to the personalized viewing experience.
Bundled with various apps for photos, music, games, movies, etc, not only does it have a wider variety in each selection, but it also provides an option to enjoy the content available on your phone onto the big screen. This is possible through Chromecast-builtin (basically Chromecast but comes built-in with Android TV).
With Chromecast almost everything you can think of in your phone can be cast onto the TV screen, be it photos, music, videos, Netflix,hotstar..the list goes on. You can even cast PowerPoint, excel sheets and even a few Chromecast supported games (the game will be shown on TV, the controls on the phones). You can also easily screen mirror your laptop wirelessly via Chromecast.
Android TV is also very much in sync with your mobile phone (do not worry, I mean iOS users also). Google play store on Android TV has enough number of very useful apps supported android and iOS (of course an upper hand for android phones).
Some examples could be remote control apps on your phone to control the TV(TV side view for Bravia), apps for receiving mobile notifications on TV (Notify Bravia), Haystack news to view news based on your choice instead of listening to Arnab Goswami asking what the nation wants to know.
In this era of binge-watching and unlimited online content, people like to discover new content, know what's happening and all use their TV as an all in one device capable of customization and personalized content.
Coming back to the question, smart TV generally has Wi-Fi connectivity and basic internet functions like Youtube, Internet browser… In sony internet TVs they come with Netflix, Sony Liv and Amazon prime( recently launched). So, it completely depends on how far you will be using it.
